Step across the void

Well no longer a void but a path to understanding and knowledge.  We just completed a bridge for a client on the other side of the hill... gosh it's nice over there.. all the trees and hills...anyway they had no way to get to their office/study.  We have now bridged the gap to understanding, well at least the gap to where they are going to have their computer...Now it might be easier for the kids to get their reports done....Hot Rolled steel I Beam and railing with anodized aluminum grating. Have a void? We can fill it... give us a ring....

Sustainablility Award

Kudos to John Lum architecture for their award for Sustainable Architecture from California Home and Design. Check out the article HERE. If you look close enough.. and please do, we have something for you in each picture except the bathroom..Now it's time to play "Where's 522?" Kind of like playing where's Waldo without the sweater...First pic.. can you find the dinning table we did?.. That was easy.. How about the Cor-ten house numbers and planter in the second picture? Our beautiful Bookcase in the third? and I know..too easy The railing in the fourth pic... Damn you are good...call us and we can build beautiful things for you as well... We will post bigger pics for those of you having a hard time tomorrow.

We appolgize...

But we have just been SOOOO busy, and haven't had too much time to post stuff.... Here is a quickie. New glass railing for a really nice home on 25th St in SF. A glass railing "Wall" with wood cap. The center railing which you can't see to well here is three flights of railing all in one plane and looks pretty sexy.. I'll see if I can dig up another shot for you but for now let this simmer in your brain and try and figure out what we can do for you...

Update.. I was so busy I forgot to give a shout out to Ross Levy from Levy Art and Architecture who was the architect on the job... always a pleasure working with Mr. Levy

Like summer raindrops pierced by sunbeams...

"Tears of joy are like the summer rain drops pierced by sunbeams. " - Hosea Ballou

So I am sure my client, as we quietly closed the door, shed some tears of joy. They were very patient and I think we are all pretty pleased with the way this turned out. Hot rolled uprights pierced with rectangular stainless bar and capped with Jatoba (Brazilian Cherry wood) #4 finish on the stainless that's a 180 grit for some, and a clear satin on the hot rolled. Just down right sexy stuff.....Oh we can do this for you as well...

18 Years Old.

So look who is legal.. now we can VOTE! September 1st was our 18th birthday and now we will be voting for our favorite views (interpret that as you may) The point is, You bought the view.. you should enjoy the VIEW not the railing.. well.. you should enjoy the railing as well so long as you don't sacrifice the view...This roof deck looking down on the Sea Cliff dist in SF just so happens to have quite the spectacular landmark in its purview....gosh where is an english major when you need one...The Anodized aluminum rail will NEVER rust.. it just can't! The only thing that will out last that bridge view is aluminum. They had a steel railing up here that lasted them a year... then they called us. This modular system snapped together in a breeze. You can do it yourself or you could have your contractor do it...or you could not only have us fabricate it.. we could install it as well... go on..give us a ring.

No Starch just rail

New Railings for No Starch Press's new digs in SF... I guess we went literal..heh.. puns. Lowest form of comedy. Oh well...What can we say we do steel, not stand up. Calls us we can do things for you.

Hoffman Rail

New railing being prepped for install tomorrow...For Joel Karr of Group 41. Four different levels of criss crossing 3/8" round bar adds depth and movement to the guard rail. Look for it on the AIA tour this Friday. We will be done.. so you can admire it in person.. oh you can also pick up a post card and see some other great stuff we have done.. and then you can have us do something for you and your project....More pics to come once it's installed...

Because you cant spell Funston with out FUN

Just finished up working on a beautiful house out in the Richmond... on Funston Ave near Geary. Sean Whelan was the contractor and did a wonderful job updating this multifamily dwelling. John Lum was the architect... one of our favs. Anyway we were proud to do some railings in both units. Stainless round bar with hot rolled frame topped off with a red oak cap. Looks nice, feels right. Oh... and of course... you can buy the house. It comes with the rail. Hell... buy the house and we will throw the railing in for free!

Connection Porn

It's just sexy....Modular bolt together railing system. Spacer connectors are counter bored so they are flush. The wire railing system has no exposed turnbuckles. Turnbuckles are for suckers. The end pieces of the wire system have internal threads to seamlessly and turnbucklelessly add tension to the wire. (you can impress your friends by using that term....just don't use it in scrabble) Just remember kids, connection details are sexy.

Form and Function

New wood cap for Aluminum wire railing in Mill Valley. Solid Red oak with aluminum biscuit to strengthen the joint.... looks good too. Form and function.

Modern Edwardian Remodel

Recent Edwardian makeover.
New flooring and some modern upgrades blend perfectly with this classic San Francisco flat. The long horizontal lines of the railing counter the wainscoting and visually draw your eye down the hallway. The wood cap softens and adds warmth to the steel railing that has been clear coated to retain the rich and natural color of the steel.

We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of the dreams...

Stair and railing for the Sunset Magazine Idea house in San Francisco. The infill for the railing are rings made from drops from a local supplier. Part of the whole reuse renew and recycle thing. Treads are solid poplar, and the finish on the steel is a clear satin, with bees wax overcoat.
